SHON MONDRAGON

Shon MonDragon is a certified meditation teacher and mental health professional. He skillfully combines scientific foundations from his undergraduate studies in cognitive psychology at the University of Houston, with therapeutically informed emotional attunement from his master’s program in Counseling & Depth Psychology at the Pacifica Graduate Institute. Shon works as a counselor, teacher and sound healer, and utilizes a history of eclectic knowledge of psychology and meditation to engage the process of self-observation and reflection.

Growing up in Houston, TX, Shon was fortunate to be surrounded by a wealth of cultural diversity among his community. This expanse of cultural perspective engrained an openness and curiosity in him which serves as a foundation for his ability to connect on a deep level with his clients, friends, and community. During his undergraduate studies, Shon worked as a research fellow with Dr. Bruno Breitmeyer, for the Center of Neuro Engineering and Cognitive Science at the University of Houston. His research on the cognitive limitations of the human visual short term working memory system was presented at the National Conference of Undergraduate Research, and the International Conference of the Visual Science Society.

Shon’s work life has encompassed academic research, automotive repair, management, international sales, counseling, and teaching. His versatility is grounded in his ability to widen perspective and find where deep seeded connections create sustainable systems. Shon has found that these connections and systems are an essential part of how one consciousness relates to others and to our world. He is inspired by the symbolic language of dreams, the imagination, and stories which elevate aspects of our deeper unconscious to our awareness. Shon’s passion for guiding meditative practice is only eclipsed by his joy for bringing the waves of sound meditation.

As a Meditation Teacher, Shon is inspired to support the therapeutic and introspective processes through enhancing awareness and internal resources for calm and relaxation. This work is especially helpful for anxiety and depression while also being deeply rewarding for individuals exploring existential wonder. Shon does not teach what to think, but rather options for ways to become more aware of the process of thought. By doing this he hopes to deepen the process of healing and growth for his clients and liberate their ability to hold greater agency over their life experience.
